Intel D1C, an organization with a dual charter for derivative technology development and high-volume manufacturing, is seeking PhD candidates within the following disciplines for Process Engineering positions:

– Electrical Engineering – Nuclear Engineering – Materials – Optics
– Chemical Engineering – Mechanical Engineering – Physics – Chemistry


Engineers are needed in multiple modules (e.g. Litho, Etch, Metals, Implant, Yield, Integration, Manufacturing, Sort). In 2013 the factory will finish retooling for the next process generation and ramp  the 22nm technology node, followed by internal development and transfer of 22nm SOC process technology.


Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Module and/or tool ownership: tool preventative maintenance, management of troubleshooting activities, regular monitoring of tool and process performance, defect analysis and reduction
  • Project ownership for improvements in safety, yield, cost, and improved manufacturability
  • Working with cross-functional teams to solve process and defects issues during 22nm process TD and ramp
  • Interacting with process engineering and manufacturing organizations to drive integrated defects reduction so as to deliver and maintain best in class die yields
  • Working with E-test and product engineering groups within yield engineering to drive product performance



  • Doctoral candidate in a listed technical discipline with a demonstrated academic record of excellence
  • Must have graduated or will graduate within 6 months from today’s date
  • Demonstrated experience to rapidly analyze complex process issues and pursue a focused solution path
  • Demonstrated experience to summarize complex data sets for technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Must be comfortable working hands-on around technical equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong preference given for candidates with peer-reviewed published papers
