MIT H@cking Medicine – Idea Hack at 2014 BIO International Convention in San Diego

BIO is pleased to present a 4-hour Idea Hack, hosted by MIT H@cking Medicine, on Thursday, June 26 (8:30 am – 12:30 pm) in conjunction with the 2014 BIO International Convention in San Diego, California! Students do not need a code to sign up and they can get in for free!

This gathering of diverse perspectives will bring industry stakeholders, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and engineers together to tackle complex health challenges with the aim to innovate testable, fundable solutions. Stakeholders will present the challenges, and participants will help solve them. We will brainstorm potential ideas surrounding the following themes:

  • Patient-centric holistic solutions
  • Patient-doctor-caregiver communication
  • Scalable healthcare software and technology-enabled services
  • Transparent collaborations with self-insured employers, provider networks, product companies
  • Rapid pilots prototyped to generate data to prove and improve care


The schedule is:

8:30 am – 9 am: Breakfast / mixer/ mingling

9 am – 9:15 am: H@cking Medicine Intro

9:15 am – 9:45 am: Breakout for Icebreaker Activities

9:45 am -10 am:  Explanation of the 5 themes and team formation at breakout tables based on themes

10 am – 10:30 am: Facilitated idea generation at each table

10:30 am – 11:15 am: Shift to solution-focused ideas within subgroups

11:15- Noon: Recorded final pitches presentations


Stakeholders will leave from this idea hackathon with key insights and novel ideas on how to engage successfully in product and drug development in innovative and reimagined ways.  MIT H@cking Medicine has previously run over 16 hack-a-thons and their events have spawned more than a dozen companies and led to several pilot projects with large hospitals in the Boston area.
