UCSD Internal Deadline – AHA Predoctoral Fellowship – July 9

OGS must submit applications for the American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowships on your behalf, so there is an internal UCSD deadline.

(This information applies to Ph.D. students.  M.D., Pharm.D., M.D./Ph.D., and Pharm.D./Ph.D. students should apply through HSSPPO.)

Award duration: 1-2 years

Award amount: $22k stipend + $1k health insurance + $2k project support per year = $25,000 per year

Eligibility: Full-time predoctoral M.D., Ph.D., D.O., D.V.M. (or equivalent) student who seeks research training with a sponsor/mentor prior to embarking on a research career; at time of award activation, have completed necessary coursework; either US citizen or holder of one of many visas (see below)

UCSD internal deadline: July 9, 2014

Please have all your application materials submitted to Grants@Heart by this date.

Before Submitting:

-Note that the grants officer is Dean Kim Barrett (user name RISKBarrett), and the fiscal officer is Mark Cooper.

-Make sure that your proposed sponsor has an eligible title code. (Your graduate coordinator can help you check this.)

-Read the review criteria carefully.

At the time of application, must have one of the following designations:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Permanent resident
  • Pending permanent resident. Applicant must have applied for permanent residency and have filed form I-485 with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and have received authorization to legally remain in the U.S. (having filed an Application for Employment form I-765)
  • E-3 Visa – specialty occupation worker
  • H1-B Visa – temporary worker in a specialty occupation
  • F-1 – Student Visa – temporary worker in a specialty occupation
  • J-1 Visa – exchange visitor
  • O-1 Visa – temporary worker with extraordinary abilities in the sciences
  • TN Visa – NAFTA Professional
