English for Academic and Professional Development (EAPD) Program at UCSD Extension

The EAPD program is for non-native speakers who would like to refine their English language skills. As we both know, UC San Diego and UC San Diego Extension have a diverse population of international students, who, at times, may feel the need to improve certain aspects of their English language skills. Of course, these students have the test scores to be admitted to UC San Diego, but once they arrive here, they may realize they need to improve some part of their English language skill set. These classes are for those who would like to gain confidence in their personal, professional, and academic English. All of the classes are excellent, taught by experienced and certified English as a Second Language instructors, many with Masters in TESOL.  The classes are small in size, no more than 16 students per class. In addition, we have designed our evening classes to suit those with busy schedules. Classes are organized into the following subject areas:

  • Academic & Business Writing
  • Conversation & Oral Presentation
  • Grammar & Vocabulary
  • Pronunciation & Fluency

Please click here for our FA14 catalog. The EAPD classes are listed on pages 124-125. Class descriptions, schedules, and costs are provided. This will give you an idea of our offerings. Fall quarter classes already began on Monday, September 29 but our winter classes will begin Monday, January 12, 2015.  I am also attaching 2 flyers, which we distribute to various campus departments, local businesses, local schools, and community centers.

UC San Diego full-time matriculated students, UC San Diego career status staff and their spouse or domestic partner, and UC San Diego faculty and their spouse or domestic partner can receive a 10% discount of up to $50 per quarter. Full-time matriculated undergraduate students can receive a UC San Diego Extension Student Grant Program Voucher, good for up to $400. Provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The dates for pick-up for the winter quarter are: Nov. 17 – 21, 2014. Along with the reasonable price of our classes, these are persuasive benefits for those seeking self-improvement and personal growth.

Our classes are credit-bearing and some international students have received prior approval for these, but in general, our courses do not fulfill most major requirements. Credit transfer would be at the discretion of the individual department or school.
