How to Start a Career Search — Jan. 19, 12:00-1:00pm

Are you a graduate student considering a career outside academia, but you’re not sure where to start? Come to this workshop to learn about how to explore career paths that would be a good fit for you, and how to start an effective job search once you’ve narrowed your career focus.

 

Questioning Career Transition Group — Wednesdays Jan. 20 – Feb. 17th

Section 1: 9am-10:30am

Section 2: 11am-12:30pm

This unique, five-session series of classes helps doctoral students through the often difficult decision-making process of whether to pursue an academic faculty career or an alternative. Past participants range from 1st – 8th+ year PhD students with some questioning the completion of their doctoral degree and others their career trajectory upon earning a PhD. Space in each section is limited to the first 15 students who register. Please watch announcements during Week 1 of Winter quarter for information on how to register.

 

Careers in Medical Writing — Feb. 22, 12:00-1:30pm

Learn from a panel of experts about the diverse career opportunities medical writing offers those with advanced degrees in a variety of fields. Laura Alper, Ph.D., Noelle Demas, M.S., and Amy Lindsay, Ph.D., members of the American Medical Writers Association, will speak about their experiences pursuing careers in medical communications and provide advice on breaking into the field. Please come prepared with questions for this interactive session!

 

Overcoming the Interview: Skills & Strategies — March 9, 10:00-11:30am

Come learn about the types of interviews you might encounter on a job hunt, effective strategies for handling each, pitfalls and how to handle them, and gain practical experience.

 

Don’t miss the monthly grAdvantage GSA Career Nights!

January Career Night: 1.20.16, 5:00-7:00pm

Heather Buschman will speak about her career path from earning her PhD in Molecular Pathology at the UC San Diego School of Medicine to becoming Senior Communications and Media Relations Manager for UC San Diego Health Sciences. For more information, go to gradvantage.ucsd.edu.
