Policy Seminar (Reception and Lunch)

March 14th, 2016, 10:00 AM, Pacific Hall 4500.

Hear a different kind of seminar from Dr. Ryan Davison, titled “How Politics are Impacting Chemistry and Basic Research!” The talk will include a general political update about the current dynamics/dysfunction on Capitol Hill, a specific political update about the members of Congress and committees that most affect science and research, and a legislative update about recent/current bills in Congress most relevant to chemists and researchers.

Dr. Davison is currently a Manager in the Office of Public Affairs where he advocates for legislation that supports the chemical enterprise. He manages advocacy and policy development on priority issues for the American Chemical Society, and spends much of his time on Capitol Hill meeting with lawmakers and their staff, attending Congressional hearings and bill mark-ups, and monitoring legislation relevant to the chemical industry. Before joining the ACS he worked at the National Academy of Sciences, and as Biosecurity Analyst at the Federation of American Scientists. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Georgetown University and an adjunct professor at George Washington University.

There will be a SWIGS-WIS reception following the seminar, with refreshments provided.
If you are interested in hearing more from Dr. Davison over lunch (Complimentary! Chem department only) contact Alissa Sasayama (sasayama@ucsd.edu).
We hope to see you there!
