WAGS/ETS Award for Excellence and Innovation in Graduate Education

The Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and Educational Testing Service (ETS) have invited UCSD to submit one application for the 2013-14 WAGS/ETS Award for Excellence and Innovation in Graduate Education.

“This award recognizes specific excellence and innovation in graduate education, from admissions through degree completion…The purpose of the award is to encourage, recognize and reward excellence and innovation in domestic and international graduate education at both the graduate school and program level.  Applications may relate to any facet of the graduate education process, including outreach, recruitment through selection and admission, retention, and degree attainment…

“The [2013-14] award consists of a certificate of award, a $2,500 award to the winning graduate program or school for graduate recruitment, admissions, or retention programs, and public recognition at the 2013 annual meeting of the Western Association of Graduate Schools.”


The department can nominate one student for this award. If you are interested in applying, please send the following information to jesun@ucsd.edu no later than Tuesday, August 13.

  • A document (500 – 1500 words) that describes the pertinent graduate education innovation and explains why it is significant. The document should also provide a description of the intended measures of success and provide data relevant to those metrics.

WAGS/UMI Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award for Humanities, Social Science, Education, and Business

The Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and University Microfilms International (UMI) have invited UCSD to submit one campus nominee to the 2013-2014 Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award for the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, and Business.

“This award recognizes distinguished scholarly achievement at the master’s level…If a nominating department offers both a thesis option and a project option, only the thesis is acceptable for consideration for this award…

“The 2013-2014 award consists of a certificate of award, $1000 to the recipient, and travel expenses for the student and the student’s adviser to receive the award at the annual meeting of the Association…

“A nominee must have earned the master’s degree within the period of July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013.”


The department can nominate one student for this award. If you are interested in applying, please send the following information to jesun@ucsd.edu no later than Tuesday, August 13, 2013.

 

  • A 1000-1500 word non-technical statement by the student describing the research and its significance for a general academic audience of non-specialists.
  • Letters from 1) the student’s committee chair or department/program head and 2) one other faculty member regarding the significance of the thesis, the contribution of the thesis to the program of the degree granting unit, and the impact of the thesis on the knowledge base of the discipline.
  • The student’s CV or resume

The department can nominate one student for this award. If you are interested in applying for this award, please send the following information to jesun@ucsd.edu no later than Tuesday, August 13, 2013.

  • A 100-1500 word statement by the student describing the research and how it demonstrates innovative or creative use of technology in the conduct of scholarship.
  • A letter from 1) the student’s committee chair and 2) one other faculty member indicating the significance of the technological innovation for the discipline, the student’s department and the institution.
  • The student’s CV or resume
