A Teaching Discussion with Professor Neil Garg

Please join us for a teaching discussion with UCLA Professor Neil Garg!

WHEN: Wednesday, May 3rd 11AM – 12PM

WHERE: Urey Room 2102

Professor Garg, whose research focuses on organic synthesis, has demonstrated excellence in teaching throughout his entire professional career. His nearly two decades of chemistry teaching experience has been highlighted with numerous awards and honors for his work in the classroom including recently being named California’s US Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

We will discuss his journey from an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at NYU to Professor at UCLA mentoring other UCLA teaching faculty (including recent UCSD graduate Jacquelin Kammeyer, Ph.D.). This is a great opportunity to speak with an established research faculty and learn about effective science communication, teaching collaborations with graduate students, and education projects. Speak with Neil on a range of topics including how to implement an entirely new laboratory course, making chemistry music videos, and changing our students’ perception of chemistry. [See his TEDx talk:  https://youtu.be/cs95YQLpSj0]

This will be an open forum style discussion so please feel free to come with any questions you wish to ask Neil about teaching chemistry.

Coffee and snacks will be provided!

[Note: Professor Garg will also be giving a talk on his chemical and educational research from 3PM-4PM in the NSB auditorium]

Hosted by Cory Weinstein and Riley Peacock
