Student Intern Opportunity at Pfizer La Jolla

The open access analytical science group is looking for a bright and motivated sophomore student, from a local four-year university, to join the team in supporting medicinal chemistry projects at Pfizer La Jolla. The successful candidate will be given initial training and is expected to apply his or her scientific knowledge in the real world setting, thus to continuously learn new skills while doing required work.

Examples of tasks to be performed: 1. Adhere to workplace safety rules and regulations. 2. Perform preventive QC test of analytical instruments (LC/MS, GC/MS, SFC/MS, NMR, etc), interpret the test results and take necessary actions to correct common issues. 3. Order supplies and organize the open access and research labs. 4. Participate in research activities in the fields of analytical chemistry & lab automation.

Requirements: 1. All applicants must be authorized to work for Pfizer in the U.S. at the time of the commencement of employment. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of college level chemistry and an ability to apply such knowledge in real work setting 3. Ability to communicate clearly and work in a fast-paced team environment 4. Self-motivated, reliable and available for 20 hours of work as sophomore, junior and senior student 5. Some of the activities require adequate physical strength

Work Hours: 1. 4 hours per day, Monday – Friday, during core business hours between 8am and 5pm; more hours per day might be available during summer 2. Performance evaluation will be given periodically; this opportunity may be extended up to 3 years at the level of 20 hours/week, subject to satisfactory performance and available funding

The UCSD Sustainability Department is invested in promoting sustainability throughout our campus as well as our city. As such, we would like to encourage any interested students to apply for an internship position with the City of San Diego’s Department of Waste Reduction and Recycling within Environmental Services. Interns would support the implementation of the Zero Waste Plan and Climate Action Plan. Key projects include conducting research on waste reductions and recycling education outreach efforts by other jurisdictions. This is a 12 month, paid internship and requires 20 hours/week during the school year and 40 hours/week during summer and holidays. Here is a link to the application.
