Pfizer Academic-Industrial Relations Diversity Fellowship Program – Deadline: 11/15/19

Dear Students,

Pfizer is offering their Academic-Industrial Relations Diversity fellowship program for the 2019 – 2020 academic year. Pfizer is looking for enthusiastic undergraduates from historically under-represented ethnic groups to participate in this research fellowship program. This is a $20K fellowship divided into $17K for the student stipend and $3000 that may be used for lab and travel costs. 

To be eligible for this fellowship, the prospective student must have completed at least one year of chemistry lecture and lab by May 2019, must be enthusiastic about science and must belong to a cultural group that has been historically underrepresented in the pharmaceutical sciences, e.g., African-American, Hispanic, Native American, Inuit, or Pacific Islander. The student is required to write a report of his/her progress in May 2020 and will be invited to present his/her research at the La Jolla site at the end of the 2020 summer.  The expectation that the student will do research during the Spring term and Summer of 2020. The deadline for submission of applications is November 15th, 2019. This deadline is firm.

The research areas of interest that Pfizer will consider funding include organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, computational chemistry, crystallography and structural/chemical biology.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry or Organic Chemistry is required
• NMR, HPLC and LC/MS experience
• Must have attention to detail, be a critical thinker and have effective organizational skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Reliable and Trustworthy
• Maintain a professional, positive and enthusiastic demeanor when communicating with clients and internal staff

Description

• Demonstrate strong synthetic chemistry expertise, use latest scientific advances and creative solutions to solve challenging synthetic issues.

• Evaluate synthetic routes as an individual contributor, which includes, but is not limited to, route discovery, optimization, safety evaluation.

• Provide technical support to QA/ QC.

Qualifications

• A MS/ Ph.D degree in Organic Chemistry with 2-5 years of lab experience

• Strong Experience with design of experiments preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear, succinct and timely communication and proven ability to foster important relationships with customers and key stakeholders.

• Excellent organizational skills, with ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.

• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Highly self-motivated and detail-oriented, with proven ability to work independently.

• Highly proficient in MS Office Suite software (Word, Chemdraw, Excel, PowerPoint).
