SoCal Undergraduate Research Symposium at UCI — Aug 5

UCI SoCal Undergrad symposium

UCSD’s undergraduate researchers are all invited to a symposium focused on undergraduate research here in the Chemistry Department at UC Irvine, to be held Wednesday August 5! A day of exciting chemistry, with a session of posters from the undergraduate attendees, high-impact seminars from UC Irvine faculty members, a networking lunch, a Q&A panel with current UCI graduate studuents, and a tour of UCI Chemistry facilities and labs is planned. Midnight Mechanics: “Slingshot” Fundraiser

The Midnight Mechanics is a high school robotics team at The Preuss School UCSD. This year, The Midnight Mechanics are hosting a fundraiser to pay for trips to regional competitions.

The team is hosting a film screening of the documentary “Slingshot” about Segway inventor, Dean Kamen, and his work on the water crisis in Africa. The screening will be held on Sunday, February 22nd.

22nd Annual Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR)

We are thrilled to announce that the 22nd annual Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) will be held at California State University, Fullerton on Saturday, November 22nd, 2014. SCCUR specializes in presenting the work of undergraduate students across all disciplines and serves as a friendly venue for students to introduce their scholarly or creative work (in a poster or 15-minute oral presentation).

 

Please encourage your students to participate in this exciting event, and please plan to attend the conference too! Abstracts are due October 6th, 2014.

 

This year’s keynote speaker be Bill Cunliffe Jazz pianist,, jazz pianist, composer, Grammy Award-winning arranger, and Professor of Music at CSUF.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Illuminating Ideas”, and this event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities, and to build and nurture relationships and connections throughout the regional community. We are also excited to announce that jazz pianist, composer, and Grammy Award-winning arranger and Professor of Music at Cal State Fullerton, Bill Cunliffe, will deliver an inspiring keynote address. The research that students will present at this conference fosters critical thinking skills as well as practical application of learning. The conference itself is an opportunity for students to communicate their ideas clearly, effectively, and persuasively.
