Translational Medicine Day

Hello all! UCSD BMES is proud to present the sixth annual Translational Medicine Day (TMD)! TMD is a conference style event dedicated towards educating and inspiring students about the field of translational medicine

What is translational medicine, you may ask? It’s the process by which cutting-edge research that happens here at UCSD and other research campuses is turned into therapies, drugs, and devices that directly impact patients on the clinical side of medicine. It is a multidisciplinary field that integrates biology, chemistry, engineering, and bioethics, as well as accounting for industry and government requirements alongside academia.

At our event, our MD/PhD panel, which addresses questions for students aspiring to grad/med school or even beyond, as well as how they can use their degree to improve medicine on the clinical side. Representatives from various medical device companies, such as AVACEN, Medtronic, and Phillips, will also be available at our Industry Demonstrations session, giving you the opportunity to interact with advanced medical products and network with them (and maybe even score that elusive internship!)

In addition, our Speaker Sessions are seminar-style presentations that detail what’s being done on the forefront of translational medicine. Finally, our Ethics Panel this year focuses on the topic of AI in Healthcare: an emerging application of computer science in medicine — laced with both concern and considerable potential — for fields such as diagnostics, telemedicine, medical screening, and patient-clinic interaction.

TMD is happening on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM at the Medical Education and Telemedicine (MET) Building! Attached is a schedule that outlines our event, including the times for sections of the event you may be interested in. We highly encourage any and all to come, regardless of major or background! Admission is free, but to get a headcount of how many people are attending, we ask that you please RSVP on Eventbrite at the link here: tmd-2020.eventbrite.com.
