Postdoctoral Positions
The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking outstanding postdoctoral fellows to pursue groundbreaking research projects involving neurodegenerative illnesses in humans.
Directed by Nobel laureate Stanley B. Prusiner, the IND’s mission is to discover causes and develop cures for diseases of aging, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, the tauopathies, and the prion diseases. Current research at the IND involves both basic and translational science, from molecular, cell and structural biology, to transgenic mouse models and drug discovery.
The IND is housed in the brand new state-of-the-art Sandler Neuroscience Center on the UCSF Mission Bay campus, permitting interaction with a wide range of biomedical and clinical research scientists.
The postdoctoral mentoring program at the IND trains fellows to become independent investigators qualified to research neurodegenerative diseases using the most appropriate, modern methods. To achieve this goal, fellows must acquire a strong foundation in the fundamentals that will enable them to master new techniques and approaches long after they complete formal training.
Applicants should hold or be close to completing a Ph.D., M.D. or D.V.M. degree and be highly motivated individuals with expertise in one or more of the following: neuroscience, molecular biology, synthetic chemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or animal behavior.
